Grade 6 Revision & Practice

Use the mathematics preview to practise finding equivalent fractions before adding. Start with a diagram, write a common denominator, then simplify only if the numerator and denominator share a factor. Our current Grade 6 catalogue contains a holiday-work preview; a full exam paper with answers is not yet available.

Fractions and a manageable revision routine

  1. Check that the fractions refer to the same whole.
  2. Change both numerator and denominator by the same factor.
  3. After correcting an answer, explain the step that changed.

Try a short question

Calculate 1/2 + 1/4.

Answer and explanation

Change 1/2 to 2/4, then add: 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4. The denominator stays 4 because the size of each part is unchanged.
